Electric vehicles (EVs), energy storage systems, and a host of electronics now rely on batteries, making them a cornerstone of a more sustainable future. According to a forecast from Gartner, Inc., by the close of 2025, 85 million EVs are projected to be in use globally, 73% of which will be Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

The number of BEVs is expected to rise by 35% from 2024, totaling almost 62 million units by the end of 2025. With EV adoption continuing to increase, there is an urgent need to address what happens to these batteries when they reach the end of their service life.
